Pastor's Column

This article is from August 2001 and our dear founding Pastor Patricia Ruthford. This was one month before 911. Destruction may have been coming, but this brave woman was always looking for the glory of the Lord and listening for His voice.

Then I looked, and behold, a whirlwind was coming out of the north, a great cloud with raging fire engulfing itself; and brightness was all around it and radiating out of its midst like the color of amber, out of the midst of the fire. Like the appearance of a rainbow in a cloud on a rainy day, so was the appearance of the brightness all around it. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. Ezekiel 1:4, 28a (NKJ)

This is the promise God has given every believer that learns to rest in Him.
We labor to come into His perfect rest that we might see him face to face.

So when I saw it, I fell on my face, and I heard a voice of One speaking. Ezekiel 1:28b

And He said to me, “Son of man, stand on your feet, and I will speak to you.” Ezekiel 2:1

This is the promise to all who believe in Jesus because He said, "My sheep shall know my voice and shall not follow another." John 10:27

The greatest gift He has given us is the gift to hear the whirlwind, to experience the fire, to see His glory, and to rest in His promises; and to STAND on our feet and hear the LORD speak.

Summer is fast approaching and with it comes new adventures. This summer the 6th graders will promote to the youth group on Wednesday, June 25!

Youth services have contemporary, bold Christian music and messages that will empower youth to face everyday challenges. There are also opportunities to join the worship team, band, training in sound, media tech and leadership. GenRock is a great place to find lifelong friends and mentors. Ready for a challenge? Come visit us on any Wednesday night at 7:00 PM and experience REAL TRUTH and awesome worship!

For more information talk with Pastors Sam and Julia or email them at juliab@ctrf.com.

Ages 2 through Pre-K

In Rainbows children will make crafts, learn exciting Bible stories, memory verses, and fun new songs.

Rainbows Club is built around a Noah’s Ark Theme: therefore, Mr. and Mrs. Noah make their appearance throughout the unit lessons. Rainbows earn animal badges as they complete each unit to place on their Rainbow vest.

The Rainbows Club meets on Wednesday nights at 7:00 PM in the Barnyard Classroom which is across the hall from the bathrooms. For more information please see Leaha Carson or email her at leahac@ctrf.com.

On Wednesday, June 18 the kids club will be having an End of the School Year Party to celebrate those who will be moving up to their new class and to youth. Move Up Sunday is June 22 and the kids will begin attending their new classes. Please see Pastor Carolyn if you have questions. You can also email her at carolyne@ctrf.com.

Sundays

The Children’s Ministry of Christ the Rock Fellowship provides a place of spiritual growth for children with age appropriate lessons. Our desire is to ensure children grow up knowing the Word of God and find salvation that is only possible through faith in Jesus.

When you arrive on a Sunday morning, your children ages four months through first grade go directly to their class at 10:00 am.  Children second grade through sixth grade will be dismissed  after the main worship service

  • Baby Rock:  4 months old through Waddlers in room 103
  • Kiddy Rock:  Walkers through 3 years in room 102
  • Kinder Rock:  4 years through 1st grade in room 101
  • Kids Rock:  2nd through 6th grade in the Fellowship Hall

Kids Clubs - Wednesday Nights

Wednesday night Kids Club provides an important 3-fold opportunity to help bring your children up in the Lord.  First, children need Christian reinforcement in the middle of the school week to refocus their minds and hearts on the Lord and give relief from the secular pressures of school. Secondly, they need the opportunity to receive Spirit-filled ministry and exercise in learning Scripture and expression of their talents. Thirdly, they need to be with Christian friends.

On Wednesday evenings the children go directly to their rooms before service starts.  They will enjoy a time of engaging bible teaching where the children can experience Christ. This is a warm, fun environment for kids to make new friends and explore their faith. Don’t miss Wednesday nights.  It’s worth the effort.  Your children need every opportunity to be established in the Lord.

  • Baby Rock:  4 months old through Waddlers in room 103
  • Rainbows 2 1/2  years through Pre-Kindergarten in room 107
  • Kindergarten through 2nd grade in room 101
  • 3rd grade through 6th grade in room 105

 WHO... GenRock youth grades 7th-12th

WHAT...Four days…water excitement, adrenaline....and, most importantly, an encounter with God that will cause you to explode in your faith!

WHEN...August 14-17

WHERE...Bellingham, Washington.

WHY...Because you don’t want to miss out and have to hear about it from everyone else, and because it wouldn't be the same without you!!

Can I bring friends? We encourage you to bring friends to all GenRock youth events.  However, for retreats we require that they attend at least two services (Sunday or Wednesday) prior to the retreat.  This gives us an opportunity to get to know everyone. If you have questions please contact Pastors Sam or Julia Branson by calling the church or emailing them at juliab@ctrf.com

The cost of the retreat is $225.00 and includes food, transportation, swimming, tubing, kayaking, paddle boats, and a water trampoline. You may also want to bring some spending money for the road trip to and from the retreat. Each participant will need to fill out the parent permission form and print the form and return it with a $50 deposit no later than Wednesday, July 9.  The outstanding balance will be due by Sunday, August 6.

Fundraising and Scholarships...If you need assistance financially and/or cannot afford camp we have many opportunities such as work at the church directed by the Pastors that will pay around $10 an hour. If that’s not enough we also have applications for scholarships. Please contact Sam or Julia at juliab@ctrf.com for opportunities to raise money for camp.
